02 Apr Fight Frizz with the Aveda Smooth Infusion system
Red wine, a bar of chocolate, your guy’s face—the best things are better smooth. Nowhere is this maxim more apt than when our hair comes into play. And while warming temps and later sunsets have got us all kinds of excited for spring, we also know that saying hello to balmy weather means saying goodbye to sleek, smooth tresses.
Frizz happens—for a lot of reasons. Some of them are out of your control, like your hair type, the climate you live in, and damage that’s already been done. But there are some couldn’t-be-easier tips and tricks that can help you combat frizz starting immediately—and lasting all year round.
1. Moisturize daily. Frizz rears its ugly head when dry, porous hair sucks up moisture from humid air, causing the shaft to swell and become unruly. (Read: wreck your look.) Don’t be afraid to call in the big guns for this one—moisture is crucial to strong, healthy hair. Try an oil like Aveda’s Dry Remedy Moisturizing oil, which relies on the Amazonian Buriti oil to get the job done. Natural oils are superior to synthetic options because they can actually be absorbed into the hair, whereas synthetic silicone moisturizers only lie on top of it, making it appear dirty.
2. Commit to good habits. We also recommend treating your tresses to a weekly mask. Aveda just released their new Smooth Infusion Smoothing Masque, and we’re seriously smitten. Organic Cupcaçu butter not only moisturizes, but also helps seal the hair follicle to protect against moisture loss and keep frizz-causing humidity out. We guarantee the yummy scents of bergamot, palmarosa (a cousin of lemongrass), Turkish rose, and Australian sandalwood will keep you coming back for more and more.
3. Handle with care. Treat your hair like the finest silk around, and see if your actions beget results. Blot—don’t twist or rub—your hair after bathing. Rough treatment from the towel can break the hair and lead to flyaways and frayed ends. Microfiber towels produce the least friction, so consider investing in one if you haven’t already. (You can purchase one at Atelier—it’s the perfect size for hair wrapping.) Hair is particularly susceptible to breakage when it’s wet, so instead of brushing, use a wide-tooth comb to gently coax out tangles.
4. Protect when necessary. Whenever you use any kind of heat styling, make sure you’re prepping and protecting your hair. The Smooth Infusion Style-Prep Smoother contains hydrolyzed wheat protein to protect the surface of your hair from heat, and aloe, maize, and guar bean to moisturize and create a sleek surface for styling. (Pro Tip: If your hair is especially thick or coarse, try applying a bit before bed. You’ll wake up with minimal frizzy volume!)

15-year-old Izzy tested out the Smooth Infusion system for us on her gorgeously curly hair. (Wouldn’t you kill for that color?!) After just one use, she saw some pretty noticeable results and commented that her hair felt softer and smoother to the touch. Beautiful!
