The Atelier Protégé is an essential facet of Atelier. The word, Prote’ge’, means, “one under the care and protection of another”. We take that to heart, by caring for the development of the education of our new generation, and protecting the culture that keeps us strong and deeply passionate about our craft. Atelier’s commitment to improving the beauty industry, one hair artist at a time, is best demonstrated through the Atelier® Prote’ge’ program. This comprehensive, 24-month program develops incredible technical skills, strong customer service vision, and excellent product recommendation abilities. This program is unique in its comprehensive, organized curriculum created by Atelier Master Artist and founder, Karie Bennett, who draws on over 30 years of experience and education. Atelier Protégés are fully licensed cosmetologists who assist the Atelier artists during the week and receive a mix of hands-on and theory time taught by Atelier trainers, the salon owner, and Aveda certification classes. Appointments are taken for live models and include a thorough consultation, a finished style and complimentary makeup touchup, all for a very reasonable cost to the model. Protégés ‘test out’ their technical skills on class models throughout the program. In the end, the Prote’ge’ has an opportunity to audition for a position as an Atelier Artist. At that time, a new Atelier star is born, and lifelong learning begins!
As a model, we ask that you keep an open mind and remember that this is a learning environment. This is an amazing opportunity for you to watch the architecture of a haircut, the creation of a custom-blended color formula, or find out how face shapes and haircuts come together to balance perfectly. Your participation is essential for these passionate artists to hone their craft. Your appointment may last from 2-4 hours depending on the class focus. The students are licensed cosmetologists and many of them have already worked in salons. They have made a commitment to take their skills to the next level. Model haircut appointments are $35. Models must be 18 years of age or older. Each appointment has a time component, so starting on time is important. If we need to reschedule your appointment for any reason, we will happily accommodate you at the next available class, please just give us 24 hours notice so we may find a substitute model. Extra long and/or extra thick hair or color correction may incur a supplementary color charge. We will give you a quote prior to starting the service. Classes are held on Mondays from 9 am to 2 pm. From time to time we need class models–’like’ our Facebook page to see our model call posts. Please note that our calendar may change at any time. Call to inquire about our upcoming

Karie Bennett has passed the 30 year mark as a hairdresser and 16 years as a salon owner, and her momentum hasn’t slowed one bit. A three-time nominee for the prestigious North American Hairstyling Association’s top business honor: the Salon Master of Business Award (finalist, 2010 and 2014, and winner in 2011), and recipient of the Global Salon Business Award, sponsored by UCLA’s Anderson School of Business, Bennett is a busy gal. Besides her work ‘behind the chair’, she is a local favorite of the fashion show and photo shoot community, she is often found leading show teams behind the scenes, and her styling work has been featured on the covers of Gentry, South Bay Accent, Scene, Gastronomique en Vogue and Salon Today magazines, as well as on the fashion runways for Santana Row, Innvision, and Vitamin Water’s Fashion Challenge. In honor of her 30th year as a hairdresser, Bennett celebrated by diving into a second career-–as a writer, and a third, as a business consultant and speaker. She is a Contributing Writer for Salon Today magazine, the nation’s leading salon business publication, and is also a Small Business Examiner for San Jose’s examiner.com.
