Founder/Master Artist, Atelier Salons
My journey as a stylist began in 1981, and as a salon owner in 1997, when I opened my first Atelier in Los Altos. Opportunity knocked in 2002, when Aveda approached me to open a flagship Aveda lifestyle salon at Santana Row. Fast forward to today: 2 Atelier locations at Santana Row, and, on January 2nd, 2016, I partnered with Atelier’s GM, Rob Willis, and opened Atelier Salon in the San Jose suburb of Willow Glen, which includes an Aveda-centric Barber Shop. I’m so proud to watch this company grow!
Education: Aveda Business College, 4Mat for Leadership, redCHOCOLATE Leadership and Colorist, MBA certificate from UMass Boston, WorkLean and Public Speaking–both at Stanford University’s Continuing Studies program.
Awards: These awards represent the work of everyone at Atelier–none of it would be possible without an amazing team. I couldn’t achieve without the belief of many people. Awards are more of a compass than a badge, they tell us if we’re headed in the right direction and they raise the bar for all of us.
-2017 Women of Influence Award Recipient, Silicon Valley Business Journal
-2011 North American Hairstylist Association’s Salon Master of Business Award Winner
(Finalist, 2009 + 2010)
-2008 UCLA Anderson School of Management Global Salon Business Award
How long have you been an Aveda artist? I had the good fortune to land in the first Aveda salon in the South Bay in 1985. Since then, I haven’t used anything but Aveda. What can I say, I’m a lifer!!
Why did you decide to become a stylist? I cut my own bangs at the age of 3 and got creative with many Barbie dolls after that. Years of makeup, haircuts, and color experiments on my friends followed. I can’t imagine not being a hairdresser.
Best professional moment: It would have to be a tie between the first time I graduated a group of prote’ge’s from my Atelier training program (I was like a proud mama) and when Atelier was recognized as one of the Top 200 fastest-growing salons in North America. The ‘Best Professional Moments’ are really every day when I have the privilege of mentoring and guiding our team. What a gift that is!
What I want every client to know about me: That I care, and their happiness matters.
Other hobbies and talents: I write for Salon Today and Gastronomique en Vogue magazines, I love to dance and sing karaoke.
If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be? The ability to superspell! I’m a bit of a spelling freak. #spellcheckforhire
Where has my work been seen? On the cover of Gentry, South Bay Accent, Scene, Gastronomique En Vogue and Salon Today magazines, as well as on the fashion runways of Santana Row, InnVision, and the Vitamin Water Fashion Challenge, to name a few.
Have you ever donated your services or talents to a charitable organization? Sacred Heart, InnVision, Families for Families, Leukemia/Lymphoma Society, Evelyn Lauder Breast Cancer, Clean Water Fund, South Bay Musical Theater, Sunnyvale Community Services, San Francisco 49ers Convoy of Hope.
What motivates you? Leaving a legacy, making a mark–I’m always hoping to make a difference, no matter what I’m doing.
