Spring Makeup: Trade In & Trade Up

Spring Makeup: Trade In & Trade Up

We know you have some long-abandoned piece of makeup lingering at the bottom of your cosmetics pouch, gathering errant concealer smears and dustings of eyeshadow as it slowly turns an unappealing shade of taupe. You can’t quite bring yourself to throw it out — but what if you could trade it in?

Each spring, we freshen up our closets, our homes, and our mindsets. This year, clean up your beauty routine.  Now through April 30th, bring in any piece of your old makeup (any brand — old, broken, and awful all accepted!) and receive $20 off your new Aveda makeup purchase of $100 or more.

We’ll take care of recycling the old stuff. If it helps, tell yourself it’s gone to the great beauty department in the sky, where someone will no doubt love it like you were never able to.

If we were you, we’d use this opportunity to take advantage of Aveda’s new spring makeup collection, Rare Bloom. It’s inspired by nature, but not in the sense that you’ll see a been-there-done-that array of earth tones. Instead, expect a color palette reminiscent of a (heavily filtered, perhaps?) field of wildflowers: vibrant, captivating, and unexpected in just the right way.

We’re already having fun using the new products to experiment with the beauty trends we saw all over the spring runways. If full-on graphic makeup isn’t your thing, you can still be inspired to borrow from its bright hues and bold lines to enhance your daily look. The electric blues, inky purples, and fiery reds rampant in Rare Bloom lend themselves perfectly to this color experimentation.

We weren’t so keen on orange-hued lips, for instance, until we tried Nourish-Mint Lip Glaze in Fire Poppy. It’s just orange enough to make you feel trendy, but not so out there that you’ll feel like a makeover gone wrong. We’ve also been wanting to play around with purple eye shadow since we saw it at the Derek Lam and Vera Wang Spring 2015 shows, and Petal Essence in Plumeria allowed us to do just that. Try this tutorial to make sure you nail the look.

Best of all, these painterly pops of color come courtesy of plant-derived ingredients. So why not give it a go? Stop by anytime —you can even schedule a complimentary makeup consultation to set you on the right track for spring. (Just call 408.244.4222 to book.) Because one thing is certain: In life and in your makeup bag, you have to clear out the old to make room for the new.
